Is the AC Hotel Orlando Lake Buena Vista a good choice for a UK holiday to Orlando?
If you’re looking for a modern, relatively straightforward hotel that puts you within easy reach of both Disney World and Universal Orlando, the AC Hotel Orlando Lake Buena Vista is one worth considering.
It’s particularly interesting for couples and adult travellers from the UK who don’t necessarily need a huge resort with multiple pools and children’s activities. The hotel offers a more contemporary feel, an on-site bar and restaurant, an outdoor pool and, importantly for UK visitors without a car, scheduled complimentary transport to Disney, Universal and Epic Universe.
But is it actually the right Orlando hotel for you?
We’ve broken down the location, rooms, transport, parking, food, pool and all the things we’d want to know before booking.

Does AC Hotel Orlando Lake Buena Vista have a shuttle to Disney and Universal?
The AC Hotel Orlando Lake Buena Vista provides a complimentary scheduled shuttle service managed via Platinum Transportation to major area theme parks including Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, and Epic Universe
The link above to the 3rd party the provides the shuttle can gain you access to the live timetable. Be aware that the hotel isn’t responsible for the timetable, but will probably publish it somewhere in the lobby. Platinum Transportation look like they run shuttles from a number of hotes.
Our tip: don’t assume “free shuttle” means you can come and go whenever you like. Check the current timetable before booking and again before each park day. A scheduled shuttle can be excellent value, but it gives you less flexibility than driving or using Uber/Lyft. From looking, the shuttles tend to run once a day to each park, and may not run as early as you’d like. This also may restrict you for your return from the parks, and you don’t want to be watching Happily Ever After over your shoulder whilst you run to get a shuttle bus.
(and actually as a write this, the current timetable is :
Shuttle departs hotel at:
07:00 a.m. UNIVERSAL STUDIOS®
07:00 a.m. EPIC UNIVERSE®
08:05 a.m. EPCOT®
09:40 a.m. HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS®
11:00 a.m. UNIVERSAL STUDIOS®
11:00 a.m. EPIC UNIVERSE®
05:05 p.m. DISNEY SPRINGS
Return Shuttle departs theme parks at:
04:15 p.m. HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS® (LANE #66)
07:15 p.m. UNIVERSAL STUDIOS® (LANE #77)
07:35 p.m. EPIC UNIVERSE® (LANE #67)
10:30 p.m. EPCOT® (LANE #35)
11:05 p.m. DISNEY SPRINGS
Some things to note here. No direct shuttles to Animal Kingdom or Magic Kingdom, if these are your favourite parks then I would recommend alternate transport options or bounce on Disney’s bus network (which will take you more time). Also its a fairly early return from Hollywood Studios, and you can’t stay late at Universal for similar reasons.
This isn’t to say the shuttle isn’t worth it, but maybe consider it just part of the transport strategy, like shuttle there and Lyft / Uber back. Its good they offer it, but gut feel, I wouldn’t be using it every day unless you spend short amounts of time in parks.
Where is AC Hotel Orlando Lake Buena Vista?
The AC Hotel is one of the best-positioned off-site hotels in Orlando for Disney visitors. Disney Springs, the resort’s free entertainment, dining, and shopping district, is just minutes away by car or rideshare. And Disney Springs is more useful than most British visitors initially appreciate: it’s the only part of Walt Disney World you can access without a park ticket, it has free parking, and has plenty of options for things to do and eat, and shop ! Please note however as of 2026, Disney prevent boarding the Disney bus and water taxi facilities from Springs unless you have are a resort guest or have a dining reservation.
Is AC Hotel Orlando Lake Buena Vista better for Disney or Universal?
Then perhaps:
| If you’re mainly visiting… | Our verdict |
|---|---|
| Disney World | 👍 Excellent |
| Universal Orlando | 👍 Good |
| Epic Universe | 👍 Good |
| Disney + Universal | 👍 Good |
| Disney + Universal + Epic | 👍 Good |
A note on why this hotel doesn’t appear in UK package deals
This is something worth explaining for British visitors, because it’s both a caveat and an advantage.
The AC Hotel isn’t consistently featured by the major UK package holiday providers — Virgin Holidays, TUI, British Airways Holidays — who tend to focus on hotels with established commercial agreements and higher volume booking flows. This isn’t a reflection of the hotel’s quality; it’s a function of how UK package deals are assembled.
For mousetowand.com readers who book independently — which, if you’ve read this far, you likely do — this is straightforwardly good news. A hotel that doesn’t appear in the standard British tourist package deal tends to be quieter, more manageable at check-in, and less likely to be shared with large coach tour groups on busy UK school holiday weeks. For couples and adult visitors who value a calmer experience, it’s worth paying attention to.
Would we stay here?
Yes — with one important qualifier. If we were a couple, or adults travelling without young children, wanting a comfortable, stylish, calm base within easy reach of Walt Disney World with the flexibility to cover Universal and the rest of Orlando by hire car, the AC Hotel would be near the top of the shortlist.
If we were a family with young children making a first Disney trip and wanting the full immersive experience, we’d look elsewhere — specifically at Disney’s own Value or Moderate resorts, which deliver something the AC Hotel doesn’t try to compete with. Budget hotels guide
The honest “would we stay here?” answer is: yes, and we’d probably sleep better for it.
How does it compare to the alternatives?
vs. Rosen Inn Lake Buena Vista (See here)
The Rosen Inn is the classic no-frills budget option in the Lake Buena Vista corridor, and it’s consistently reliable. Rosen Inn offers complimentary scheduled transportation to both Disney and Universal, with private transfers to SeaWorld, Aquatica, and Discovery Cove arrangeable at the front desk. Where the Rosen Inn wins: lower nightly rate, no resort fee, and a well-established shuttle operation with a clear schedule. Where the AC Hotel wins: considerably more stylish rooms, a better bar and dining experience, and a calmer atmosphere that suits adult visitors on longer stays. If budget is the primary concern, the Rosen Inn is the stronger choice. If comfort and design matter, the AC Hotel justifies the modest premium. Rosenlbv
vs. Avanti International Resort (See here)
Avanti is a mid-range property centrally located on International Drive, with a free shuttle to the theme parks and an iRide Trolley stop close by. The two hotels have a similar price point but serve different trip types. Avanti on I-Drive puts you in the heart of Orlando’s entertainment corridor — more restaurants and attractions within walking distance, more energy and noise, more of an I-Drive holiday feel. The AC Hotel in Lake Buena Vista puts you closer to Disney Springs with better Disney access and a significantly calmer atmosphere. Avanti charges resort fees, which the careful budget comparison should account for. The Rosen Inn at Pointe Orlando — directly comparable to Avanti in location — doesn’t charge a resort fee, which is worth noting if I-Drive is your preferred base. For Disney-focused trips, the AC Hotel’s location wins. For Universal and I-Drive focused trips, Avanti’s location has the advantage. OysterOyster
vs. Disney Value resorts (All-Star Sports, Pop Century)
This is the most important comparison for UK first-timers weighing the AC Hotel against staying on Disney property. Disney’s Value resorts — All-Star Sports, Pop Century, and the Movies and Music resorts — cost more per night than the AC Hotel but deliver benefits the AC Hotel can’t match: free bus transport to all four Disney parks directly from the hotel, 30 minutes of Early Theme Park Entry every morning, and the full immersive Disney resort experience from the moment you arrive. For families with young children on a first trip, those benefits are genuinely worth the premium. For couples or adult repeat visitors who’ve done the Disney bubble before and don’t need the immersive experience, the AC Hotel at a lower nightly rate with a more sophisticated atmosphere represents a compelling alternative.
vs. Universal Value resorts (Cabana Bay, Endless Summer) (Cabana Bay – see here)
Universal’s Value resorts sit near their parks and include early park entry to all Universal parks including Epic Universe — a significant advantage for Universal-focused trips. The AC Hotel has no equivalent Universal benefit. For a trip centred on Universal Orlando, staying at Cabana Bay or Endless Summer Dockside is almost certainly better value despite a similar or slightly higher nightly rate. For a mixed Disney-and-Universal trip where Disney is the priority, the AC Hotel’s Disney Springs proximity wins.
